There are two options for additional training with Harrington Doodles. We provide services at our home and folks take home a pup 12 weeks to 1 year of age. Or for those who want a well trained dog but prefer to train on their own, we offer an unlimited training program through Baxter & Bella.
Pups staying with us an extra month or two are crate trained, comfortable with grooming and respond to core commands (sit, stay, come, off.) Fully-trained dogs head home 6 - 12 months of age. Reach out for details, pricing and availability. All puppies receive our Beginner's Jump Start Training from Week 5 - 8.
I often hear about different training programs. Some I check out, others I don’t.
But when a mom of two told me about a program she’s using to help “train” her two kids (one with special needs) — and her husband — before they even bring their puppy home, my curiosity kicked in. Just a little.
Then she mentioned they offer a free, fairly detailed video that walks through their approach (used for service dogs with goal of calm and responsive.) That was enough for me to take a few minutes and watch.
I was impressed by a number of things — especially the order they use to approach training, and their overall philosophy of using your body (not just commands) to get better results.
If you’re curious, you can watch the video I saw at no cost here. You’ll take something away whether you sign up for their online program or not.
